Workshops are for students who already have a strong background in the subject. They offer intensive practical training and complete projects that tie the topics together and show you how to use them in earnest. They are therefore not designed for beginners — you can go to the training programmes and learning tracks for courses that start at the beginning and take you through to professional level.

Have you studied .NET for building web applications
but still need the practical side?

With a workshop that builds a complete web application using MS .NET and an MS SQL Server database, you can put everything you have learned to use — and go on to build your own projects properly

This workshop sets out to build a professional, complete web application on .NET with a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 database, alongside a range of other tools and techniques, to teach you how everything you have learned fits together and can be used side by side to build a web application worth having.

How the application gets built

  1. 1

Gathering and analysing the data, and planning the work As the first stage of any software project, we discuss what the application should do and what it should offer, gather the data and analyse it, and agree the plan.

  2. 2

Designing and building the database At this stage the database is designed on paper, then taken through the steps needed to turn that into a working database.

  3. 3

Designing the user interface The user interface is designed in HTML/CSS, with some effects in JS/jQuery. No server-side work happens at this stage.

  4. 4

Programming the interface and connecting it to the database The placeholder data added to the interface is removed, leaving only the design, and the design is then connected to the database.

  5. 5

Designing the admin panel Using HTML/CSS and JS/jQuery, the project’s admin panel is designed — again with no server-side wiring yet.

  6. 6

Programming the admin panel and connecting it to the database The admin panel’s functions are brought to life and connected to the database, working through the different scenarios it has to handle.

  7. 7

Other additions Common tools are used to add extra value to the project — setting up a Google Analytics account for statistics, and similar.

  8. 8

Testing the project and putting it online At this stage the data is added and the application is tested, confirming it works correctly and efficiently, and checking it across browsers.

Every applicant sits a qualifying test before registering for the workshop, to confirm they meet the minimum required to take part. * The qualifying test is held at the academy at a time arranged with the applicant after booking. There is no charge for the test, and if the applicant is not accepted the deposit is returned in full.

Meet the trainers on this course

Ahmed Fathy
Ahmed Fathy Developer and instructor, .NET web and Windows applications

Ahmed graduated from the Faculty of Computers and Information with distinction and honours, placing third in his year in the computer science department, and went on to work as a developer of advanced applications on .NET for both web and Windows. He now teaches advanced courses at Seven Dash, aimed at producing trainees capable — practically and academically — of joining the job market and holding up under the pressures of real work.

Hamada Mahmoud
Hamada Mahmoud Web developer and instructor

Hamada works as a professional web developer across a number of platforms including PHP and MS ASP.NET, and is a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer for web applications, having taken his BSc in computer science. He has long practical experience building web applications for the job market, alongside teaching many courses in the field.

Waleed Mohamed
Waleed Mohamed Managing director, and database developer

Waleed began studying computing and programming at around eleven years old, on the old Q-Basic, and has worked with many technologies in programming, databases and computer systems generally since. He is now managing director of Code-Times Ltd, specialising in systems analysis, MS SQL Server database development, and building large applications on MS .NET for both web and Windows. He currently runs the training departments at Seven Dash and designs and delivers many of its specialist programmes, with a view to teaching content closer to how real software companies actually work than to an academic syllabus with no regard for applying it.
